Another old post. The Marion on Nicol, I love you…Doing something a little different this year.

Champagne on entry. Beautiful ladies basking under the cool but relaxing Joburg sun. A perfect Saturday afternoon on a Spring day in Sandton’s Marion on Witkoppen.

The Marion Hotel is an intimate boutique and luxury hotel that resembles much of a high end guest house. I estimated about 8 bedroom suites with magnificent streams of sunlight.

The high tea was also a very intimate shing-dig as we were only 12 people, the rest being the waiters and managers at our every beck and call. Lovely finger snacks with exotic cocktails of my choice. Unfortunately, I was the designated driver. So I was unable to overindulge myself in the exquisite tastes of beverages that I will never buy for myself until I have a stable and sizable income.

Alas, I’m allergic to seafood. So the brightly pink skin of the freshness of the salmon neatly nestled in a bed of bite-sized wheat squares and cream cheese were gazed upon by my salivating eyes. But there was a pastrami equivalent. And I was happy with that. I have never tasted salmon, or I don’t remember the taste so I felt like I was missing nothing.

My specialty comes when it’s time to nibble, or rather gorge cakes. Cheesecakes, cupcakes, custard pies, scones and cream, brownies…All the sorts and my oh my did they taste great. But nothing will ever beat the taste of dedicated bakeries.
