This is last year’s Google Science Fair finalist Luke Taylor, 15, as he talks about his interests, inspirations, what he entered into the Google Science Fair and why?

Luke made it to the top 60 out of over 7500 entrants from 90 countries. 

If you don’t know what the Google Science Fair is…Google it. Just kidding.

According to the Science Fair website

The Google Science Fair is an online science competition seeking curious minds from the four corners of the globe. All you need is an idea.

The top 15 global entrants get the chance to go to Google headquarters for the final stages of judging. The Grand Prize winner will receive $50000 scholarship from Google, hands-on experience at Google, Lego or CERN, and more.While top 15 finalist also receive super prizes for themselves and their schools.

Last year, three young ladies won the top three prizes. More on that here.

But I urge young South Africans to take part. Promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in a country with very low STEM scholars, students and graduates. A country with a demand in STEM graduates. So if you’re 13 to 18, do the right thing. And if you’re not, go tell your sibling or cousin to get the entering NOW!
